Many visitors were present at the autumn meeting of the South Canterbury Jockey Club, held at Washdyke on Saturday, when, despite an occasional shower, conditions were, on the whole, quite pleasant. Tweeds were popular, some"of the new fleck materials being very-smart. Copeland. who has been appointed to the staff of the Dunedin Training College, was entertained on Saturday at an enjoyable afternoon tea party given by second-year students of her class at the School of Art, Misses Allison Oourlay and Daphne Kemp acted as hostesses. Miss Mavis behalf of the students, regret at Miss Copelartd'S departure, and wished her every success In the future. Mrs Geoffrey Mortlock (Straven road) was hostess at an enjoyable party-held on Saturday-afternoon in honour of Miss Rita Williams, whose marriage will take place shortly. _ The guests, each of Whom brought a cup and saucer for Miss Williams, spent a pleasant time with games and competitions. ~ Amongst those present were Mesdames H.
