MASSED AIR RAID BY ITALIANS

HOSPITAL AND CHURCHES DESTROYED

NORTHERN ARMY CONTINUES ADVANCE

(HOTTED PEE 33 ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.) (Received March 30, 1.32 a.m.) ADDIS ABABA, March 29. Harar, the second largest city in

Abyssinia, is in flames after a mass air raid by 30 Italian bombers. The French hospital, the Catholic church, and a number of Coptic churches, and many of the biggest buildings were destroyed. The casualties are estimated at 40 dead and 120 injured. In the north the Italians occupied two important strategic towns, So-

kota, 45 miles west of Lake Ashanghi, and Debareh, a commercial centre on the southern tip of the Semien province. The occupation straightens cut the front. It followed a ijiarch by day and night with camel trains, the troops often stripped to the waist, through the sandiest and hottest part of Abyssinia. No resistance was encountered and it is presumed that the Abyssinians had withdrawn days before. The second army corps is now marching through Debareh toward Gondar, and it is unofficially declared that part of the force is already there.
