POLICE BETTING RAIDS
SYDNEY ENQUIRY SYDNEY, March\ 16. When the Royal Commission on betting raids opened to-day it was announced that two Labour members of Parliament, Messrs Lazzarlnl and Clyne, who in Parliament made serious charges against the police, did not intend to appear before the commission. However, the police commissioner, Mr Mackay, attended and gave evidence in defence of folke methods. He denied the statement made in Parliament that if the police did not return with a car load of betting offenders they were unfavourably looked upon.
