CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION MEETING OF EXECUTIVE A meeting of the executive of the Canterbury Rowing Association was held last evening in the Canterbury Rowing Club's boathouse, the president, Mr F. D. Kesteven, in the chair. A copy of a letter sent to the Minister for Railways was received from the Auckland Rowing Association asking the Minister to restore to rowing clubs the privilege of free transport of rowing skiffs to regattas. The letter stated that the heavy burden of freight on boats had reduced the number of entries, and in some instances had prevented clubs from entering crews at all.

The secretary of the Akaroa Rowing Club, Mr W. E. M. Jacobson. wrote asking the association to receive a deputation consisting of Messrs F. Davis, J. E. Armstrong, L. J. Vangioni and Jacobson regarding the holding of the championship regatta at Akaroa in 1937. It was decided to receive the deputation at. a meeting of the association on March 24. A reply was received from the secretary of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association (Mr A. D. Bayfield) in answer to a letter from the association referring to the condition of the water for the rowing of the championship fours at the New Zealand championship regatta. The officials were of the opinion that the need was evident for rowing the events in smooth water. The race in question was started in reasonably smooth water, but the rising of a squall during its progress had. led to exaggerated comments on the action of the officials in starting the event. The New Zealtnd Council, approved of the affiliation of the Christ's College Rowing Club. The letter also stated that when the opportunity occurred individual members of the council would inspect the' intended course for the 1937 inter-provincial eight-oar event. The course proposed by the Canterbury Association was on the Waimakariri river at Stewart's Gully. Different matters arising from the regatta last Saturday were also discussed, members expressing satisfaction with the meeting. A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs W. G. Atack, J. B. Taylor, and R.
