ACCIDENTS
WOMAN INJURED. IN COLLISION • On the way to Christchurch yesterday afternoon a small motor-car, owned and driven by Mr H. W. Mitchell, of Culverden. with Miss Alice Dawson as a passenger, collided with a service car at the Okario bridge. The impact caused Miss Dawson's head to strike the windscreen, and she suffered severe facial wounds, necessitating several stitches by Dr. R. L. Withers at the Kaikoura Hospital. Mr Mitchell was unhurt. The motor-car was badly damaged. SHOT IN THE .ABDOMEN Ralph Duggan, of Worcester street, received a charge of shot in the abdomen from a shotgun held by his companion, Brian James Lagan, when the two men were shooting rabbits near Chaneys yesterday afternoon. The accident occurred while the two men were taking a rest about 3.30 p.m. The St. John ambulance was immediately summoned and Duggan was taken to the Public Hospital, where he was operated on. His condition last night was reported to be serious. INJURY TO RAILWAY GUARD J. H. Wright, a railway guard, slipped from a train at Arthur's Pass last evening and injured an ankle. He was taken to Springfield and from there was conveyed to the Christchurch Public Hospital by ambulance. CYCLIST SERIOUSLY INJURED * Mrs Lorna Stuthridge, of 124 Racecourse road, when riding a bicycle on the Main South road, was struck by a lorry driven by Andrew Philip Thomson, near Sockburn. shortly after 5 o'clock last evening. She was taken to the Public Hospital in a semi-con-scious condition, suffering from a broken jaw, shock, and possibly a fracture of the left leg. Her condition last evening was reported to be serious. The lorry belonged to the Ashburton Transport Company.
