LAUNCH LOST NEAR KAIKOURA
BROKE FROM MOORINGS DURING GALE
The fishing launch Blanche, owned by Mr J. Souter, of Kaikoura, and operated by Mr D. Low, broke her mooring chains during the heavy gale early yesterday morning and was blown from the old wharf up .the coast a distance of 10 miles. When the owner discovered the .loss a party motored up the coast road and found the launch* at the rocky Ohau Point riding the seas with the mooring chain hanging loose. The boat came in shore with a big wave and fouled the chain on the rocks. Another large wave submerged the vessel and she did not reappear. Wreckage then began to drift ashore. The boat was a total loss.
