BRITISH FILMS
SALES IN NEW ZEALAND CONSOLIDATION OF INTERESTS The announcement of a far-reaching consolidation of British film interests was made to the "New Zealand Herald" by Mr Ernest .Turnbull; managing-director of British Dominion Films, Ltd. Plans had been completed, he said,, whereby the films produced by a number of leading British companies would be sold and distributed together throughout Australia and New Zealand. Mr Turnbull said that British Dominions Films had just completed this deal with Mr Stanley Crick, managingdirector of Fox Films Corporation of Australasia. The names of the British companies concerned were. GaumontBritish Picture Corporation, British and Dominions Film Corporation. Gainsborough Pictures, Ltd., Twickenham Film Productions, Ltd., and British Lion Films, Ltd. "We have long felt that it has been necessary to organise the selling and distribution of British pictures in order to meet competition,". Mr Turnbull said. "The arrangement provides that the Fox Film Corporation of Australasia will create a special British division dealing with the Brjtish films. This means highly specialised selling of British films with effective distribution through a first-class organisation." Among the early films to be released under the new arrangement would be "The Tunnel," a most spectacular British film, Mr Turnbull added. The organisation throughout New Zealand would be under the control .of Mr Eric Rutledge, with Mr, Barrie Y. Marschel as special British representative and attorney. Mr Marschel had been associated, as general manager, with British Dominions Films since that company started in New Zealand.
