Following the torrential rain a fortnight ago, flood water found its way into the cellar of the Junction Hotel, and a small electric pump was used to remove it. Heavy rain on Monday flooded the cellar again, and the Rangiora Volunteer Fire Brigade's engine was Commissioned yesterday morning to pump the water out. High School Board The board of governors of the Rangiora High School last evening decided to recommend the Canterbury Uni* versity College to appoint Mr C. Morgan Williams, M.P., as its representative off the board. There were present at the meeting the chairman, Mr C. I. Jennings, and Messrs O. Duff, W. A. Banks, C. S. Ayers, and H. A. Bennett. . Mr C. Rands wrote saying that he had resignednis position as representative of Canterbury University College on the board because of ill-health. He regretted that this step was necessary and wishfed the school every success in the future. resignation was accepted with regret and appreciation of Mr Rahds's Services was recorded. While the object of the proposal was fully appreciated, the Department of Labt)Ur advised that it could not make a grant of £BO from the unemployment fund to provide a pump and fittings for irrigation experiments at the school as requested by the board. As a foot bridge over the railway line at Rattgiora Would cost about £BSO, the general manager (Mr G. H. Mackley) wrote saying that the New Zealand R&ilways Boafd could not erect one. , The Works committee was asked to investigate tfce seeding of the furnace room, the plimp at the baths, and parts of the grounds in wet weather. The many friends' of Mr William Alexander Wilkin, second eldest son of the late Mr and Mrs J. A. Wilkin, Akaroa, learnt with much regret the news of his death at the Cook Hospital Gisborhe, recently. Mr Wilkin was born at Omikuv Akaroa, 69 year's ago, and was educated at the Akaroa Borough Primary School and the Omiku Native School. As a young man he went to the North Island, where he worked for a time on tRe railway which was thten being put through the Manawatu Gorge. Forty-four years ago he went to Gisborne to live, .and has resided ift the Poverty Bay district ever since, He worked for many years on the Gisborne Harbour BoaroTs dredge. He was a well-known road and bushfelling contractor at Gisborne and Matawai. and had also undertaken many other contracts in different parts of Poverty Bay. The funeral took place at Taruheru cemetery,, after a short service at Cochrane's Chapel.. The pall-bearers were Messrs Harry Wilkin (Akaroa), Maurice Wilkin (North Island), brothers;; Percy; Sell, Joha Watson, and Thomas. Cairn. Dance A very enjoyable dance, organised by the members of the Akaroa Silver Band, was held in the Boating Club's Social Hall 'There was a good attendance, a number of the ships' companies from H.M.S.'s Leith, Wellington, and Wakakura being present. The. music for the dancing was played by Mrs L. M. Bailey, Xe Bon's Bay, with extras by the visitors. Mr E. Longden was master of ceremonies.
