WELLINGTON, March 9.

The Dominion Observatory's special weather forecast for Canterbury is as follows:

Strong south-west winds to gales. Weather cold and boisterous, with further heavy rain. Hail probable in places, and snow on the higher levels. Seas high.

The following is the Dominion forecast:—-

Weather cold, unsettled and squally, with Intermittent rain in most districts, and on the ranges snow. Further heavy rains likely in eastern areas, and about Cook Strait. Hall In places. Corialtions gradually moderating, however, from the westward. An extensive and intense low pressure area still lies over and east of the Dominion, while an anl'l-cyclone covers most of the Tasman.

Winds— South-westerly to southerly, itrong to gale force. . Seas (New Zealand waters)— High south of East Cape, and on the west coast of the North Island, elsewhere rough. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong southerly winds to gales, with rough to high seas, but wind and sea gradually decreasing.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

The heavy rain which began during Saturday night continued throughout Sunday and yesterday. The maximum temperatre during the day was 54.2 degrees.

At 1 o'clock this morning rain was falling and a high south-west wind was blowing. The temperature was 46 degrees. The barometer was steady at 29.70 in.

IN OTHER PLACES

Auckland—Except for showers early yesterday morning, the weather v/as fine yesterday, but conditions were unsettled. A fresh breeze was blowing from the south-west and made the temperature remarkably cool. The barometer continued low, being steady at 29.35 in all day. Wellington—The weather yesterday was cold- and dull.. Steady rain fell in the afternoon, and conditions were very thick and misty. A moderate north-west wind prevailed, but fell away to almost a calm during the afternoon. The minimum temperature during Sunday night was 46.2deg. Tha maximum yesterday was 58.0deg. Dunedin—-There was a continuation of wintry weather yesterday. Heavy rain fell for the greater part of the day, accompanied by a fresh southwest wind. The temperature at 8 a.m. v/as 46 degrees, and the maximum for the j day was 51 degrees. The total rainfall from 2 p.m. on Saturday to 4 p.m.. yesterday was 1.91 inches.
