TRAFFIC INSPECTION
TO -TBS EDITOR -0» THE PBBSS. Sir,—At last one of our leading lights in the City Council has made the discovery that the traffic inspectors are hot properly organised. This is our present, Deputy-Mayor, Mr K H. Andrews. Allow me to ask Mr Andrews why is it that he has not
acted before when he; and Mspy'tewf committee had the' inspectors under C °When I was a candidate for the council at the last two elections I advocated the reorganisation of the traffic department with a new chief. I could say a great deal more here, only vou would not publish it, but I am ISJrf to state evaythtne bgtore «nv enouiry that may be held. Take for instance the control of traffic at the railway station. 1 have seeniaS many as five inspectors there when there has been no rush, and if u Millikeri cares to accept an from me, I will show him quite a number of by-law offences which are ignored by the inspectors. . ... L have also reported a certain inspector to the council on several occasions for breaking the law atjhe railway station, but no action has been ta £w me to point out and congratulate the traffic inspectors on the way traffic was controlled on Show Day at the intersections of Wiuteleigh .avenue and Jerrold street. This section has always been mix-up, but on this occasion Acting-Chief inspector Broughton made arrangements with the Tramway Board to stop all trams on the outward side of the above-mentioned streets, which allowed the traffic into the Show Grounds to flow instead of banking up behihd the trams. This alone goes, to show that new management is required. .. The traffic committee some time ago appointed a clerk into the Chief Traffic Inspector’s office to do dll his office work, so as to allow the chief to work outside, but why is it this has not been carried out? Then again the junior inspectors are ignored when they put forward suggestions. In conclusion, the only cure is to reorganise, starting at ,aetop.-Your S .«c.. c g toillo February 27, 1936.
