Helen* Bay Went on to seort* by a length from Header, with Mabel Chimes two lengths back third. •, H « ei i ,s ® a y was very patiently handled and allowed to run ner own race. Header went well, and Mabel Chimes nearly brought off a surprise, but she was beaten when she broke. She paid a good place price. Reward was m a handy position three furlongs from home when, he broke andlost his chance. Gala Day, Autumn' Lou, and Kippagh, other fancied candidates,' drifted early in the race and Were never possibilities. ‘ Meal ai •% • Loaf- Price There, was,‘a thrilling. finish for the Autumn * Novice Ideal getting, the' verdict/ from Tenor, Superior Bank, and Precious Metal. Dusky Chum made nearly, all the pace from!' Tenor, Precious Metal, Lucky Jack and Ann Pointer, and this quartet comprised the leading division as they turned for home. Tenor appeared to have the race won half a furlong from the post, when both Ideal and Superior Rank came with late runs to head the others ‘otv the .post, Ideal: getting the verdict -by Va . head from Tenor, who beat Superior Rink by half a lerigth. Brecious -Metal was tourtli almost in line With Lucky jack, Ann Pointer, and Dusky Chum. Pirate King was always tailed off and others to. lose ground at the start were Superior Rank, Precious Metal, and Lucky Jack. Superior Rank’s performance was a good one, • as he was still giving the leaders eight lengths start at the half-mile. Ideal’s form was not so poor as to entitle him to pay the huge dividend which was returned his few straight out sup 7 porters. .Easy For Blair Athol . . Blair Athol was..not troubled to win the Waiwetu Handicap. He ran to the lead with half the journey covered, and was not extended to beat Parochial by a length and a half with Trevor de Oro five lengths back third and Diversion fourth. : The winner is much aboye the average, arid was a cut above his opponents. Parochial ran a good race, being handy to the leader all the way. Trevor de Oro had to make up a good deal of ground from the half-mile. Celebrity and Diversion were well out of their ground for the first mile, but Diversion finished on nicely to be in line with the fourth horse. . Baron Alfonso went away badly and was a furlong behind the field all the way. Zest fan a fair race without looking likely to trouble the winner. Kaitawa was beaten when he broke at the home turn while lying second'to the winner. ; Francis Lincoln Wins Big Event The Armstrong Memorial Handicap was won by the Aucklander, Francis Lincoln, who was fifth favourite both ways and at a good price. . The pace was on all the way, the winner’s 4min 26sec seldom having been bettered at Hutt Park. Sylvia Sydney was the leader most of the way, but three furlongs from home Agile slipped the field. However, his advantage was short lived, for at the distance both Francis Lincoln and Grace,McElwyn came at him with late runs from the back, and the Aucklander drew put nicely at the end to win by a length and a half from Grace McElwyn, with Agile three lengths away third, then Raydus, .Queen Author, Birgen Palm, and Sylvia Sydney, J Francis Lincoln was well driven. He .never went on the outer of a horse until asked for his ‘finishing run. Grace McElwyn was unlucky, as shei lost fully'four seconds at the Start. Bingen Palm and Peter Locanda faded 6Ut over the last quarter after being , near the leader all ‘ the way. Queen Author looked a l&el^ /improver. ' Header's Two Mile Trot The two miles trot Was won .handily by Header from Sister Mary and Little Reta. Wrackless, and Autumn Lou Were at the head of the field most of the way, with Kippagh, Little Reta, and Sister Mary handy, At the home turn Header and Sister Mary, dashed through to the lead from handy positions and fought out the issue Header wanning by a length and a half, with R*ta.. four., lengths ..away .tb|rd fourth. Mabel Chimes, Ba»n%ott, and Wrackless were all /tip. .behind horaea. ■ sister Mary lost a little ground in the middle stages of the race and both Kippagh and Autumn Lou faltered at Vital / stages Header very Steadily and wpn well. Little Beta went a fair race, her third Peeing never being in doubt. The Auckland bracket. Dilfashion and Gala Day. were never sighted, while Don Giovanni was pulled up, after losing a couple, of furlongs at the start. A Fall and a Win Golden Miller made short work of the field in the Taita Handicap, for which he was fourth favourite. While doing his preliminary he fell heavily. Both horse and driver escaped injury and over the business end pf the contest they never gave the opposition a lo Ann. n Pointer made nearly all the running from Dusky Chum, Tenor, and Activity, with Lola Bingen and Real Pal both handy. Tenor had reached the front at the home turn, where he was tackled by Dusky Chum, but Golden Miller quickly ran past them and on to an easy two lengths win from Dusky Chum, who defeated Tenor by a similar distance. Activity was right up fourth and Real Pal .next. Tenor did not hang on so well as he did in the earlier race, while Precious Metal ran disappointingly after a good showing earlier in the day. Lucky Jack broke up at the start and took no serious part in the race. A Good Thing Beaten The Aucklander Lynnqrthy looked a good thing beaten in the March Handicap, for which he was favourite both ways. Plutus began smartly and quickly pulled his way to the front, leading from Eastern Prince, Kaitawa, Lynnworthy, Ahuareka, Allworthy, and Norrie Rock. Two furlongs from home Lynnorthy and ParochiaLhad both moved up near the leader, though Lynnorthy was penned in behind Plutus, with Eastern Prince on his outer. Neither of the leaders .would shift ground, and though Lynnworthy was full of running he was unable to force his way up the fence until it was too late and Plutus won by a Short length. The diminutive Eastern Prince just failed to get third, Allworthy finishing well on the outer for the minor money. Zest and Ahuareka were close up behind the placed horses and the next to finish were Parochial, Norrie Rock, and Kaitawa. . After his two good seconds to Pot Luck at Forbury Plutus was allowed to pay a false price. Donald drove him a good race in front/ but it was his good fortune that his most serious opponent was travelling in his wake. With an even run from the home turn Lvnnworthy would , have won. Brigadier broke up at the start and lost too much ground, Ahuareka and Norrie Rock were showing up at the home turn, but neither could go with the placed horses over the last furlong. First-Class Performance King’s Warrior, the both-ways favourite for the Telegraph Handicap, returned a capital performanme to get the prize. He was very badly, away and half a mile from home was so far-out of his ground that hw case looked hopeless. However, Smith moved him up gradually to the field and; he won narrowly. Logan’s Pride, Sylvia Sydney, Homeward, and Queen Author were the leading division for a mile, where Raydus and Grace McElwyn moved up * within striking, distance.; ■ Logans Pride still had command at the home turd and a little further on Grace McElwyn • ran to the front. • She was being proclaimed a winner when Queen Author dashed up on the outride. Momentarily the latter looked a likely winner, until King’s Warrior i came with a late run and snatched ■ +he ’ verdict by a neck from Queen Author, with Grace McElwyn a length away third. Homeward fourth, then Sure and. Logan’s Pride. King Warrior’s performance was outstanding, Ha was lucky to get

" .. * , % • ...-1 ■ through the field without having stq come very wide at the home turn, but nevertheless there was great merit to the win and he .looks a good prospect for Monday. , , Grace McElwyn ran a splendid race, as did Queen Author, while Logan S Pride threatened danger right until the last half-furlong. • TO-DAY’S PROGRAMME . An interesting day’s racing at the Franklin meeting at Pukekohe to-day culminated with a win for the rank outsider Roman Mascot, who paid more than half a century for a win and double figures for a place. Easy for Favourite Claiming a five pound allowance the ton-weight, Gay Defence, was made an each-way favourite for the Waiuku Hack Handicap, and be acted up to expectations by winning mcely. Nearing the home turn Gay Defence and Dancing Lady ran upon the outside of Cappy and Enlightenment, and Gay Defence then drew away to win •by three lengths from Enlightenment. Cappy was a neck away and Loombinaiion was fourth, followed by Dancing Lady; Calcutta, Teddy Boy, and Ringshot. Gay Defence displayed definite superiority. Enlightenment and Cappy ran good races, and the former appears to be making a little improvement, although up to the present he has failed to do as well as expected. , An Avondale Winner The Avondale-trained Sebrof scored at a good price in the Bombay Handicap. Red Flame. Sebrof, Stormy Weather, and Mainland were quickly prominent. Sebrof leading into the straight from Mainland, Red Flame, Solas, Wahineroa, and Stormy Weather. In spite of boring away from the rails, Sebrof won easily from Mainland. Solas ran on better than usual for third, just outstaying Red Flame. The winner is a fine upstanding four-year-old brother to Jaeldy Karo and Prince Lu, and has had very little racing. Successful Debut Although he was having his first race over fences. Huskie was made an each-way favourite for the Puni Hurdles, and he gave a fine display to win handsomely. Huskie and Gascille cleared away in the middle stages, when Orenda and The Hiker were their closest attendants. Five furlongs from home Lap Up, who was a long way back, began to go after the leaders, and at the last fence he had drawn level with Huskie. However. the latter was going well, and went away to score very convincingly from Lap Up. GasciUe tired into third and The Hiker was fourth. Gay Poto lost his rider at the first fence. Huskie fenced well for a beginner and is a good hurdler in the making. Lap Up and GasciUe made very creditable showings. British Columbia should be improved by the run. Lagoon’s Cup Showing improvement upon her Te Aroha running, Lagoon won the Franklin Cup practically from end to end; Nun Nicer. Sinking Fund, and Knight of Australia followed her closely in the first half of the journey, with Tahurangi and Miss Lu next Entering the straight Lagoon was just clear of Sinking Fund, Nun Nicer, Miss Lu, Knight of Australia, Gay Broney, and Enge. Lagoon Stayed on soundly and scored by three lengths from Sinking Fund, Enge ran on very strongly to get third and Gay Broney was close up fourth, followed by Knight of Australia, Nun Nicer, Miss Lu, Flood Tide, and Velocipede, La-

goon ran right up to her best form, and she is now very useful over middle distances, although a little difficult to follow. Sinking Fund was always in the picture and Enge was closer at the finish than at any other stage. Nun Nicer had every chance, only to lade at the end. The Juvenile Event The two-year-old Cheval de Colee made an auspicious debut when he won the Tuakau'Stakes. Cheval 4® Colee led into the straight from Hohana, Gar Vaals, Marjory Daw, and Parlardo. Once in line lor the post Hohana challenged. but had no chance with Cheval de Colee, who defeated her by three lengths. Gay Streak, who had anything but a good run, and was well back at the turn, finished fast on the outside lor third, and Thangilgmba was running on in fourth position ahead of Gar Vaals and Lorita. The winner is a fine type of colt and,.like most of the progeny of Vaals, has good speed, ft was a coincidence that Mr A. Row.an, who won the . event last' year .with Tohnerre, another son of vaals, should again have won with another unraced colt. It was a further coincidence that E. Keesing was again the successful rider. Vera-Acre. Wins, It was with a brilliant finishing run that Vera Acre scored in the Dynes Fulton Memorial Hack Cup. High Quality was squeezed back at the start and the first to become prominent Were Leo Colossus, Valise, Light Comedy, Tutor, and Lombination. Passing the six furlongs Valise was in charge, but a little further on, Light Comedy was in command to be joined at the top by Valrent, who had run up very fast or the outside. Rounding the bend into the straight, Light Comedy and Valrent were the leaders from Loombination, Valise, Leo Colossus, Tutor, and Te Broney. Halfway down the straight Light Comedy, although boring out badly, was in front, out Vera Acre came through very fast to win running away by three lengths. Tutor was a neck away, and King Tut was a close fourth, Vera Acre’s victory was thoroughly deserved, but Light Comedy would have taken more beating with a stronger’ horseman. Valrent was not well handled, being rushed up on the outside in the middle stages. A Smart Galloper Little Artist accounted for the Buckland Hack Handicap In good style. Triune and Fleetwind made most Of the running from Red Flame, and at the straight entrance they were the leaders with Little Artist moving up on the outside, ahead of Professional and Diacquedoon. Once in line for the post Little Artist shot out and went on to win from Triune, who defeated Red Flame by a neck. Lord Willonvx was close up fourth succeeded by Diacquedoon, Professional and Cplshot, who received a check after going about two furlongs. Little Artist is a smart galloper and may not be long in scoring again. A Big Dividend Roman Mascot was responsible for a surprise in the Fiikekone Handicap, Boughal was quickly in the lead from Mungacre, Crooning, Roman Mascot, Wahine Reihi, and Tin Lap. Entering the straight, Boughal and Mungacre led from Tin Lap and Roman Mascot and as they straightened up, Mungacre appeared likely to win, but Roman Mascot finished strongly on the inside, to beat him by hall a length. Gay Broney flashed up on the Outside with a brilliant burst at the end to be a neck away, third, and Tin Lap was fourth, followed by Wahine Reihi and Boughal. Roman Mascot has not had a great deal of racing this season, but has evidently recovered form. Puss Moth was badly squeezed at the start, and Wahine Reihi also did not get out well. ■ ■■■. . - ■- Do you want to sell your home? Read .and use “The Press” Classified Advertisements.
