RESCUE WORK IN THE FLOODS
TO THE EDITOE Oi' THB TEESS. Sir, —Kindly allow me space to express my gratitude, along with others, to Mr and Mrs Neilson, the caretakers at Waikuku. for their untiring help and self-sacrifice in helping the marooned at Waikuku. No one could have done more than the caretaker and his noble band of helpers, for they carried people through the raging torrents till daylight, although the caretaker's house and belongings were in danger of being swept out to sea at any moment. Mr Neilson and the others carried on undaunted until all were safe. We also wish to thank Mr Summerfield for his untiring efforts and cheery manner, as he moved the marooned lo places of safety, and all other helpers who were so courteous and patient throughout this great ordeal. —Yours, etc., S. JACOBS, Waimate. February 22, 1936.
