A spirited debate on the proposal to grant the franchise to Orientals in; British Columbia drew from the Prime Minister (Mr W. L. Mackenzie King) a warning that race prejudices must not be raised in Canada. Oriental trade was vital to the province and must not be endangered by misundersandings. The franchise was a matter for negotiation between the countries. Japan had observed the immigration treaty to the letter.
