NAVIGATION WARNING

LARGE LOG SIGHTED

The Marine Department advises that the Canadian Planter on Wednesday night sighted a large tree trunk about three feet in diameter. 12 feet long, ■ and dangerous'to navigation. The position at the time was latitude 40deg 3mln south, longitude 177deg 15min east. The log. is believed to be floating a few miles south of Cape Kidnappers.

RANGITIKI FURTHER DELAYED

The Rangitlki has been further delayed at Port Chalmers by rain, and is now due at Lyttelton on Wednesday to continue loading.

CHIFUKU MARU IN PORT

The Japanese steamer Chifuku Maru arrived at Lyttelton yesterday from Wellington to discharge general cargo from Japan and to load. She will proceed to Dunedin to complete.

Captain J. W. H. Holmes, of Glsbornc, has been appointed master of the motorship Port waikato, arid will take up his duties early next month. Captain Holmes Spent 13 years.in the service of the Union Steam Ship Company. Ltd.. and later he was harbourmaster at Plcton for some time. During his residence in Oisborne he served for eight years as a member of the borough council, and he has also acted as harbourmaster.

MATAROA DELAYED

The Mataroa has been delayed at Port Chalmers by rain and is now due at Lyttelton on Wednesday to continue loading.

THE PORT BOWEN

The Port Linei steamer Port Bowon was to have sailed from Lyttelton yesterday afternoon for Port Chalmers for final loading, but, as no berth was available at that port, her departure was postponed until to-day.
