BAND CONTEST
EVENTS AT NEW PLYMOUTH THIS WEEK

NEW PLYMOUTH. February 23. There has been a large influx of visitors to New Plymouth fcr the Dominion bands' contest, which will open to-morrow, and continue until Saturday. Every hotel is fully booked, and accommodation elsewhere is at a premium. Pukekura Park, with its terraced amphitheatre, will be the scene of the major events of the contest. Several bands arrived by special train from the south to-night. Some of the entrants have withdrawn, mostly through financial difficulties. The following 12 bands will take part:—A ' Grade: Cairns Citizens (Queensland), Nelson Garrison, Port Nicholson Silver, St. Kilda Municipal, Wanganui Garrison, Timaru Municipal, Woolston; B Grade: Hastings Citizens, Greymouth Municipal, Wellington Boys' Institute, Taranaki Regimental, Waitara Municipal. ' The judge is Mr A. Baile, of Sydney, and the assistant judge, Mr T. Gray., of Wellington.
