SUPPORT GIVEN TO WINTER EXHIBITION (BFICIAI. TO TO PBXS3.) TIMARU, February 21. A decision to give hearty support to the winter exhibition and show project,at Timaru was made at a meeting qf. the provincial executive of'the'New" Zealand Farmers' Union today. Mr C. Ley presided. A letter was received from the Automobile Association (South Canterbury) saying that the reason for the difference in the price of petrol in Christchurch and Timaru was due to Timaru being a secondary port. The Director-General for Agriculture wrote regarding the transfer of ct3ture v in Timaru/ siying ' ffiftt M Stafford would be replaced by an officer who would be initiated into his duties in Timaru by Mr Stafford ber f6re the new: officer began his duties in irrigation work.,.;'•.■■ .. The secretary (Mr A. B. Steuthers) said the new officer, Mr G. Leech, was a good man, who would be willing to visit branches to give addresses.
It was decided to send a letter of appreciation to Mr Stafford for his services and to send a letter welcoming Mr Leech. The secretary reported that the recent field day at Pleasant Point had been a success, but he thought, it would be a good idea if farmers could be induced to enter in a competition similar to those conducted "iit: Ellesmere and Mid-Canterbury. Theciatter was referred to the branches for consideration.
