DISTRESSED AREAS IN BRITAIN
I'KOI'OSED SMALL-HOLDING SCHEME
(British orricur. wireless.) (Received February 16, 7.57 p.m.) RUGBY. February 14. The commissioner for the distressed areas of England and Wales, in a report issued last night, recommends that a special fund be created to stimulate the introduction of new industries and the expansion of existing ones in these special areas. An agriculture programme is announced, enabling about 2000 families from the special areas to be established on grouped small holdings by the summer of 1937, mostly in groups of about 40 families The planting of trees on some 200.000 acres within the special areas is also recommended.
