DIFFICULT RADIO RECEPTION
AREA BETWEEN HAVELOCK AND NELSON
EXPERIENCES OF COOK STRAIT AIRWAYS
CrR»3» ASKfitUATIOK TELEU2AM.) NELSON, February 15. Mr G. B. Bolt, chief pilot and technical adviser for Cook Strait Airways, referring to experiences on flights between Nelson and Wellington, said that all pilots noticed a very unusual roaring sound through the radio earphones when passing between or over two high hills between Havelock and Picton They experienced this when flying either to or from Wellington, but did not get it when flying high over the mountains. Listeners in Nelson are convinced that wireless reception is subjected to the same unusual distortion and many think that this may offer a field for investigation.
