HEATHCOTE COUNTY’S CREDIT BALANCE
“These figures are a little bit fictitious,” said the chairman. Mr. W. .W. Scarff, when the Heathcpte County Council received its financial Statement last evening. “There Was. a debit balance when the figures were drawn up, but since then the money has been rolling. In and .we have a most satisfactory ctedit.’V Mr . Scarff said that of the £18.123 10s 2d in rates levied lor the year, £12,899 13s lOd, or 71 per cent., had been paid by 4 p.m. yesterday. Of the £3680 14s 2d of rates ipi arrear, £1647 18s lOd or 44.77 per cent., had been paid. The last day for the payment of rates without the 10 per cent, penalty was Monday,, and it was expected that by then the percentage received would even bd considerably higher.
