NEW SEASON’S WHEAT
Initial Payments Announced
ADVANCE OF 5D ON LAST YEAR
An initial payment of 4s 5d a bushel f.o.b. for Tuscan wheat, with the same increments as operated last year, Was announced by the Wheat Committee after a meeting last evening. The initial payment is 5d greater than the 4s paid for the first three months of last year. Farmers have expected some advance in the initial payment, but they will be agreeably surprised that it has turned out to be so large. , 1 The official announcement ran:— “The Wheat Committee announces that the initial payment to growers has been fixed at 4s 5d for Tuscan, 4s 7d for Hunters, and 4s 9d for Pearl, January to March, with the same increments as for last year commencing in April. These prices are f.o.b. growers’ nearest port, sacks extra. . “Certified seed wheat: Wheat certified as seed wheat under the Seed Wheat Certification scheme of the Department of Agriculture in association with the Wheat Research Institute is'exempted from the operations of the regulations under Regulation 3, Clause 7 (b). “Cross 7 wheat may be exempted from the regulations upon'application. to the Wheat Committee and upon production of evidence of authenticity.” The payments to be made month by month this year are:—
A final payment of 7|d a bushel was announced last week on last year’s crop.
