Methodist Church , Services at the Lyttelton Methodist Church to-morrow will be conducted by the Rev. J. D. McArthur, of Timaru, chairman of the South Canterbury Methodist district. " Picnics The Linwood School picnic, with 750 children and adults, was held at Quail Island yesterday; and the Belfast School picnic f with 350, was held at Diamond Harbour. The success of both picnics was marred to some extent by showers of rain. . ■ -i A Busy Port With three of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s passenger liners in port, and,several coastal vessels, the waterfront at Lyttelton was .very busy yesterday. All the available union labour was absorbed, and a large number of outsiders secured employment for the day. Rain caused a stoppage of work before three o’clock in the afternoon. ; y I. Harbour Light Theatre “West Point of the Air,” which will be screened at the Harbour light Theatre this afternoon and evening and on Monday evening, is described as one of the greatest, aviation pictures yet made. It is undoubtedly spectacular and dramatic, and it also has a good ' leavening of romance and comedy. Wallace Beery heads the cast as the bid-timer aviation instructor, devoted to the service, and Robert Young is his headstrong son. Maureen O’Sullivan, James Gleason, and Lewis Stone are also in the cast The short subjects include a coloured cartoon, a Thelma Todd comedy, and two newsreels. Personal Mr F. Fowler, of Russell, lessee of the Harbour Light Theatre, arrived yesterday from the north, Mr S. E. Shayle-George, manager of the Union Steam Ship Company’s subbranch office at Lyttelton, will leave to-day to take up the position of manager of the company’s Oamaru branch. Mr N, Thompson will be act-ing-manager at Lyttelton for some weeks until the arrival of Mr L. L. Derbidge, of Blenheim, who has been appointed manager at Lyttelton. Yesterday Mr Shayle-George was presented by the Lyttelton and Christchurch staffs pf the company with an oak chiming clock, suitably engraved. Dance The social club of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Rangitiki will hold a dance in the Excelsior Hall to-night from 8 o’clock till midnight,
