IRELAND: A POLITICAL ANALYSIS
TO THK BDITOB Of TH« PEISS. Sir, —I have just read your review, under this head, of Ms Armour’s book, “Facing the Irish Question.” May I that in future,' should a similar work come under your notice, you should employ a reviewer who has even the faintest knowledge of the Irish position. Should you wish to educate one for future use, I further suggest that he should begin with the regular reading of Irish newspapers. After a course of six months I do not think he will find that Mr Armour, whose book he has just reviewed; is “as extraordinarily well equipped for his task” as he (your reviewer) imagines he is.—Yours, etc., . X. February 1, 1936. [The reviewer of “Facing the Irish Question,” to whom this letter was referred,, said that the correspondent should have stated where he found evidence of lack .of the faintest knowledge of the Irish position. The book was an analysis of the political and religious feelings in Ireland which have been manifested on various occasions. The author used historical data and his own.personal experiences as his material, coupled with the knowledge he had gained through bis association with administrative work in India. His work in Ireland was such as to give him detailed knowledge of conditions in the north, where he was for many years editor of a leading newspaper. He travelled in the south and more than once met. Mr de yalera. His work in India was sufficient* to broaden his outlook on Imperial problems. The review was mainly a brief outline of his views with a word of praise for the manner in which he dealt with the subject, and the expression of opinion that the experience mentioned equipped him for his task.]
