MANY SWORDFISH LANDED
SPORT AT MAYOR ISLAND
(PRBSS association telegram.) TAURANGA, February 13. Excellent sport continues with big game fish at Mayor Island. During the last few days the launches Naomi, Dauntless, Kingfish, Virginia, and Dawn have landed swordfish which bring the total catch for the season to more than 70. Mr F. Hopkins and party captured four swordfish, the heaviest weighing 2801b. H.M.S. Dunedin called at the island on Tuesday, and a launch put off, and within an hour a swordfish was landed. Mr and Mrs Peel, in the Virginia, secured three weighing 220, 230, and 3001b. One fish was caught within 14 miles of Tauranga. Mr E. Chadbin, in charge of the Kingfish. says that never in his 15 years’ experience of fishing at Mayor Island has he seen the fish so plentiful. He reports that fish were caught by the Naomi, Dauntless, and Dawn, which are still at the islands.
Mr E. A. Temple Perkins (District Commissioner of the Uganda -Protectorate) and Colonel J. L. Sleeman (Commissioner of the St. John Ambulance Brigade Overseas) left for the island to-day. It is reported that Lady Galway’s party, on the Naomi, landed two swordfish.
