Sound is translated into colour on a special apparatus attached, to .an orthodox piano at the University of Wisconsin. Keys actuate floodlights and spot-lights Interpreting in colour the moods of the audible music. Each key is the electric switch; lor a colour light mounted in the wings of a smiaU stage and focussed on the row of 50 glass rods. Each octave on the piano represents one colour of the spectrum. Three switches above the keyboard control major “chords” of colour, floodlights above the stage that efivelop the set in the fundamental hue of the musical composition. , Foot pedals operate rheostats, controlling fhe volume °* each colour Octave. Professor Varnum. the inventor, has grouped various colours according to ' their - physiological or psychological effect ,6n human, beings.
