ADMINISTRATION OF PUBLIC SERVICE
ANNUAL MEETING OF SOCIETY
The establishment of a university chair or lectureship in public administration has been one of the aims of the Public Service Administration Society, and in the annual report presented to the annual meeting last evening, it was stated that the matter had received the constant consideration of the executive. Progress had been retarded, however, as it was thought advisable to wait for the views of the newly formed branches in Auckland and Dunedin, and also as the question was to some extent dependent on what financail provision the Government was prepared to' afford to the university for the establishment of a course. It was hoped to advance the project much further this year. The meeting was held in the old Provincial Council Chambers and the president. Mr J. H. Robertson was in the chair. , The election of .officers resulted:— President, Mr G. A. K. Simmers, active vice-president; Mr S. T. Barnett, honorary vice-presidents, Messrs F;W. Furby, E. S. Brittenden, A. L. B. Ross. A. R. Jordan, and Dr. J. Hight; secretary. Mr D. K, Walker; treasurer. Mr G. A. Milne; auditor, Mr O. H. Burns; committee, Messrs ij. F; Baird, J, L. Robson, T. R, Smith, C. B. Robson, and E. fi. Thompson. The programme for this year recommended to the incoming committee was a combination of discussion groups, prepared talks by members of the society, and occasional talks from authorities outside the society.
It was decided to send two delegates from Christchurch to a conference to be held in Wellington on March 3. The selection of the delegates was left to the incoming committee. Votes of thanks were passed to those who had'giyen lectures during the previous year, especially to Dr. J. Hight and Mr L. C. Webb, who had also given valuable assistance ia formulating the programmes.
