JACKIE COOGAN ROBBED
ENGAGEMENT RING STOLEN FROM FIANCEE
(mrtTKS FKBSB ABBOCTATIO*—COPTUttT.) (Received February 13, 8.50 p.m.) CHICAGO, February 12. Jackie Coogan and Betty Grable, who are visiting Chicago on a vaudeville tour, reported to the police to-day that they had been the victims of a hold-up and had been robbed of 5000 dollars’ worth of jewellery, principally an engagement ring, and 50 dollars in cash. After attending a dance at a central hotel the couple started back in their car for another hotel where they were staying. A car followed them, and although Coogan was suspicious and speeded up, he was soon overtaken and crowded to the kerb. Two masked gunmen entered his car and one of them said: “Take it easy now, Jackie, This is a stickup, Miss Grable—give us that ring,” The efforts of the young couple to hide the ring at the bottom of the car were seen by one of the gangsters, who said:' “Give us that ring or I’ll blow your brains out,’’
