CANTERBURY AMATEUR CENTRE
EXECUTIVE AND QUARTERLY MEETING
The executive of the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association met last evening. Mr E. M. Todd presided. There were also present Messrs L., H. Hill, B. Beattie, R. Gracie, H. A. Kirby, W. J. Calderwood, J. C. Harbutt, C. N. Hamilton, J, K. Moloney, and Dr. D. McK. Dickson. The South Canterbury Sub-Centre wrote asking that its clubs should be allowed to combine as one South Canterbury team at the Canterbury championships. After long discussion if Was decided to grant the request for this year and to review the position next season if necessary. At the quarterly meeting of delegates held later, it was decided to hold an inter-club meeting on March 14, at Kaiapoi or English Park. After a long discussion on the competition for the Thomas relay baton at evening handicap meetings, It was decided to revise the rules governing the award of the cup and th§ scoring of points for it, before the beginning of next season.
NEW HURDLES RECORD
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) HASTINGS, February 13. . Franfc Sharpley won the 220 yards ihtrrdles in one-fifth of . a second inside the existing New Zealand record at a meeting of the Napier , Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club, to-night. Finlayson made this time recently at Auckland, and in the event of his record being recognised he and Sharpley will be the joint holders. All necessary precautions were taken, and there is no doubt that Sharpley’s effort will be recognised by the authorities.
