ELECTION TO CITY COUNCIL
CITIZENS ASSOCIATION’S
The Citizens’ Association last evening decided to select Mr James Carter as its third candidate for a council seat in the municipal byelection to be held on March 11. The associaton’s “ticket” of candidates for the by-election is now as follows:—For the Mayoralty, Mr J. W. Beanlatid; tor council seats, Sir
Hugh Acland, Mr T. J. Maling, and Mr Carter. Labour candidates were announced last week as follows: For the Mayoralty, Mr J. K. Archer; for council seats, Messrs, G. Manning, R. M. Macfarlane, and J. Mathison. In the municipal elections in May, 1935, Mr Carter was seventh on the list of defeated candidates, polling 15,194 votes. Mr Carter is well known in the city, and is a prominent member of the Citizens’ Association. He is a member of the firm of James Carter and Sons, motor engineers, and is a prominent member of the Avondale Golf Club.
