(PWSB3 ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, February 12. The Gazette gives a return of the population of the Dominion of New Zealand, its dependencies and mandated territory. Population (including Maoris) of New Zealand proper at December 31, 1935: Males .. • • 798,446 Females .. • • 769,774 Total 1,568,220 Population of Cook Islands, Niue, etc., at September 30, 1935:—Males, 838 i; females, 8004; total, 16,385. Population of Tokelau Islands at August 1, 1935:—605, 593, 1198. Population of the mandated territory of Western Samoa at September 30, 1935:—27,977, 26,176, 54,153. Total population of the Dominion of New Zealand, its dependencies and mandated territory 835,409, 804,547. 1,639,956. New Zealand Proper Population (excluding Maoris) of New Zealand proper at December 31, 1935:—Males; 758,846; females, 733,440; total, 1,492,286. Maori population 39,600, 36,334, 75,934. North Island Population (including Maoris): — 521,437, 493,146, 1,014,583. Population (excluding Maoris): — 483,534, 458,347, 941,881. South Island Population (including Maoris): — 277,009, .276,628, 553,637. Population (excluding Maoris): — 275,312, 275,093, 550,405. During the quarter ended on December 31, 1935, the population of New Zealand proper showed an increase of. 6091, compared wjth an increase of 5277 during the corresponding quarter of 1934.
