How to Water Your Garde® The best time for watering your garden during the summer is in the evening, when the sun is not so powerful. The water will then sink down to the roots during the night, without evaporating in the heat of the sun before it reaches the roots. Remember the roots or plants need water, not the leaves and flowers althoueh a nine sprinkling of water will freshen them. It is important that you should give your plants enough water to sink down to their roots. A mere sprinkle does more harm than good, for it tempts the roots to come upwards for the water, ana that is bad for them. n .. ground is hard and dry, break it up every now and then with a hoe. This loosens the soil and lets tne air in and the water can then sum down more easily. Some plants need more water than others. Kose» and ferns need a great deal, so oo phloxes, pansies, and hollyhoCKs. whereas geraniums, snapdragons, and rock roses prefer fairly soil.
