CHILD DROWNED

SON OF MR ALF BRUSTAD

Carl Waiter Brustad, aged two years and two months, the only child of Mr All Brustad. was drowned in the dip on his father's property at Waiau yesterday morning. The father and others were in the woolshed talking, and the child was with them. He evidently wandered away, but his action was unnoticed for about 10 minutes. A search was made, and almost immediately he was found in the sheep dip. Efforts'at resuscitation were made and Dr. Todd, of Rotherham, was immediately called by telephone. He found, however, that the child was dead. Great sympathy is felt with Mr Brustad, who was formerly well known' as a guide at the Hermitage, Mount Cook. It will be recalled that Mrs Brustad. who was, formerly Miss Aroha Clifford, died at the birth of this child.

One man was killed and two others were seriously injured when their car careered out of control lor 100 yards, finally to turn several somersaults on the Waihi road at Hawera to-night. Charlie Arnold Haylock, a railway fireman, single, aged 29, was killed. Those injured are George Webster, railwcv fireman, who has concussion and injuries to the back and an arm, and Allan C. Sim, also a railway fireman, who has concussion, injuries to the back, and abrasions. Both the injured men are single. Late to-night neither was out of danger, though Sim was recovering from the effects of the concussion. Both had recovered consciousness. The car had just passed another vehicle when it skidded off the camber of the road, bumped over a raised crossing and somersaulted into a telegraph pole ,

(I'HBbS AtfSOCIATIOM TKLEGKAM.) WAIROA. February 11. Ray Nicolson, aged about 34, a single man, met with a very serious accident this afternoon at the Waikaremoana power works. He was found in an out-station badly burned, apparently as a result of coming into contact with a 30,000-volt line. It is unknown how the accident occurred. Alter first-aid treatment he was conveyed to the Wairoa Hospital. His condition is serious.

Frank O'Connor, of Mil Selwyn street, while riding a motor-cycle at the corner of Selwyn street and Moorhouse ave'.ue about 9.15 last evening, attempted to avoid colliding with a motor-car, and struck a post. He was taken to the Public Hospital; and is suffering from a fracture of the left tibia.
