PROGRESS OF WORKS The progress of the various, works controlled by the Port Hills-Akaroa' Summit Trust was reported on at a meeting of the trust last evening. Mr' N. V. Smith presided. Mr G. A. Ell had resigned his position as custodian at the Sign of the Kiwi, the trustees reported. So far nobody had been found to fill his place. The Sign of the Bellbird. at Kennedy's Bush, had been let to Mrs J. Gilby, who was carrying on the tearooms as in the past. Pending the filling of Mr Ell's place Mrs Gilby was also acting as caretaker at the Sign of the Kiwi, the approach to which had been graded. , A gang of men was engaged under a competent foreman on the part of the Summit road between Dyer's Pass and Kennedy's Bush. It was hoped that shortly this stretch would be greatly improved. The reserves beside the road were being cleared of weeds. The supervisor of the Hvork at the Sigh of the Takahe (Mr R. Frazer) reported on the progress made in decorating the armorial room and the memorial room. Arrangements were well ahead to start building the rooms facing north.
