OBITUARY MR J. L. ROBERTSON (spzciaz. to turn pans.) NELSON, January 11. ," The death occurred this morning of Mr John~Leonard Robertson, a wellknown citizen of and a partner in the firm, of J. D. and L. Robertson, Ltd. Mr Robertson was born and educated et Wakefield, where his father was one: of the earliest settlers. His mother's maiden name was Rutherford, and she was a sister of the famous scientist, Lord Rutherford of Nelson. After leaving school, Mr Robertson was apprenticed to the building trade with Mr George Robertson, of Bright- ' water, and at the close of his apprenticeship, he transferred to Robertson Bros., Ltd., of Nelson, with whom he was associated until 1919. In 1919 he left Nelson to take up a position with . the Wanganui Education Board as foreman builder, and while there he superi vised the erection of several large : schools—Queen's Park in. Wanganui, ' Foxton, Palmerston North, and Feilding. He returned to Nelson and-;tbok jup his old position with Robertson - 'Bros., Ltd. and later he joined the firm as a partner. In July last he became seriously ill, and yesterday he suffered a collapse. Mr Robertson took a prominent part in the Presbyterian Church, of which he was a deacon. He was immediate past master of the Waimea Lodge;and a- member 61 the Rechabite L6dge: The Starr Bowkett Society was. also strongly supported by him. A widow and one son, Mr Jack Robertson, survive him. Personal"; Mr A. K. Hadfield "and family (Christchurch) have been spending a forthigtit in. Nelsbn and are returning home after an enjoyable visit. , - Mr W. 0.-Shain and Mrs Shain returned to Nelson to-day after a holiday visit to Sydney and, Melbourne.
