WOMAN STOWAWAY DROWNED

LEAP FROM BOAT DECK OF MONTEREY SYDNEY, December 13. Leaping from the boat deck of the Monterey, a young woman stowaway, Phyllis Elbon, was drowned overboard. The Monterey was off Gabo Island en route from Melbourne to Sydney. Miss Elbon was discovered on board soon after the vessel left Melbourne. The body was not recovered. The body of James Taylor, aged 22, a porter on the Monterey, who had been missing from the ship since Sunday, was found near the pier at Port Melbourne yesterday.
