HOME ECONOMICS ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL AT HOME Members of the Home Economics Association concluded the year's activities with an "at home" held in the Masonic Hall, Gloucester street The hall had been beautifully decorated with arum lilies, pink and blue lupins, and pink rhododendrons, and a large number of members and friends enjoyed the musical programme, which had been arranged for their entertainment by Miss L. Gilmour. _ „ The presentation of a play by the association's drama circle, under the direction of Mrs J. W. Palk—the second play which the circle has presented—showed the marked progress that had been made by members, and the beautifully finished marquetry articles made by the arts and crafts circle, of which the association's president is director, were * much admired. In her address of welcome, Mrs J. Richards (president) specially welcomed Miss Mildred Trent, president of the National Council of Women, Mrs H. A. Nutt, president of the North Canterbury Provincial Executive of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union, and visitors identified with other women's organisations. She briefly outlined the work of the association and spoke of the assistance the demonstrations and'lectures had been to women in helping them with household problems and teaching them how to beautify their homes. Bouquets of flowers were presented to Mrs Richards and to Mrs Palk, director of the drama circle. The programme included a pianoforte solo by Mrs H. Robinson; songs, Mrs R. J. McLaren, Mrs A. Harper, Mrs L. Holland, and Mrs P. A. Le Brun; recitations, Mr R. Malcolm and Miss Thelma Rickard; and song with violin obligate, Mrs F. and Miss Beaumont. The one-act play, which caused much amusement, was presented by Miss E. Page, Miss C. Wardle, Miss P. Hughes, Miss Joy Donald, Mrs A. Milne, Mrs C. C. Henwood, Mrs L. A. Barrett, and Miss L. V. Findlay. Supper was served by the committee.
