MISS BATTEN ACROSS ATLANTIC
♦ I SAFE LANDING IN | BRAZIL ! FIRST SOLO FLIGHT OX ROUTE BY WOMAN (Received November 14, 7.5 p.m.) PERNAMBUCO (Brazu). Nov. 14. Miss Jean Batten arrived at Natal at 7.45 a.m. on Thursday (New Zealand time) from Dakar, Wt.-t Africa. Flying conditions on this side or the Atlantic were unfavourable, and the visibility was poor. Her first words on landing were. "I'll fly to Rio de Janeiro at 6 o'clock tomorrow." Her time on the trans-Atlar.iic journey was 13 hours 15 minures. She is'the first woman to make the flight solo, Mrs Lindbergh bavin % been accompanied by her husband on a similar flight in 1933.
