YOUTH HOSTELS
MEETING OF COMMITTEE
A meeting of the committee of ttr Youth Hostel Association was held recently. Votes of thanks were passed to M v Frank Milner for h : s recent brqadcas address, and to Mies C. Wilding foher work in supervising the establish ment of new hostels.
A letter was received from the South Canterbury Federation of Women's Institutes asking for the establishment of a chain of .hostels in South Can tcrbury, particularly in the MackenziCountry. and offering to assist in th* work. The committee decided to try to comply with the request, and ex pressed appreciation of the federation' interest in the project.
That the work of the association was not going unnoticed was shown by several appreciative letters received, some complimenting the association on the excellence of its hostel' and others expressing keen support tthe proposed visit c" a party of New Zealand trampers to Great Britain and Europe. Mr Nicholls stated that hj" thought only a limited number should be sent on the first trip, but that thr scheme should be enlarged as timr permitted. Miss Wilding wr.3 authorised to make a tour of inspection of the hostels on Banks Peninsula.
