JUBILEE OF ST. PAUL'S CHURCH, WAIMATE
;Early days of the Methodist. Church iii Waimate were recalled at a "reminiscence evening," when the seventieth jubilee celebrations of St. Paul's Church were continued. Reminiscences were told by a number, of former ministers and old identities of tlje district, many of whom had returned to Waimate to be present at the jubilee celebrations. Before this • high tea was held. The Rev. J. H. Haslam, president of the conference, and a former minister in the circuit, expressed his pleasure at being able to present his own greetings, and said he first visited "Waimate in 1900* ■■-•■■ The Rev. J. D. McArthur, chairman of the South Canterbury district, presented greetings from the district and the Bank Street (Timaru) Church, which was the mother church of Waimate. He congn>'."!ated the Waimate Church on its 5) e record. The Rev. W. F. Nichol (Knox 'Church, Waimate), on behalf of the , Waimate Ministers' Association, spoke of the happy relations er.pting between the ministers and churches in Waimate.
The Peputy-Mayor (Mr W. G. Paul) extended the greetings of the citizens in«;the church's jubilee celebrations. '•■ Mr George Manchester and Mr E. W., Hall (Christchurch) - also spoke.
Messages were read from many former members of the church now resident in other parts of. New Zealand; :
After the-speeches a pleasing function took place when Mr Haslam, as president of "the conference, presented long service certificates to two of the members of the church—Mr John I. Hayman (50 years' service) and; Mr Kippenberger (44 years' service). Songs were sung by Miss Hayman and Mr Haslam.
