Bowling '% Club met last evening to say farewell | i to a popular member and a last year's vice-president, Mr A. E. Firman, who i will leave Nelson on Saturday to take up his residence in Christchurch. Mr Geo. Manson, the president, in expressing regret at Mr Firman's departure, referred to the great interest Mr Firman had taken in the club's activities, and said he would be very much missed. The secretary (Mr B. W. Stiles) asked Mr Firman to accept a fountain pen as a slight token of the esteem in which he was held. Several other members also spoke. Mr Firman responded. Christian Temperance Union As a continuation of the jubilee celebrations of the Nelson Women's Christian Temperance Union, a tea was held last evening, followed by a public meeting at which the Mayor (Mr G. L. Page) presided. The principal speaker was Mrs Moffatt Clow, of Belfast, Northern Ireland, and there was a large attendance of members of the Women's Christian Temperance Union and the public. The Mayor said the Women's Christian Temperance Union was an institution of practically world-wide and international character, and all fully realised the great amount of good flt had done and was doing in thus country. The Women's Christian Temperance Union was inaugurated in Nelson nearly 50 years ago by Mrs Wellard. a woman of intellect and ability, to inculcate a spirit of goodness and virtue in the city, and she should be revered in their memories.
