AMATEUR TOURNAMENT AT RAKAIA SEVERAL FAST BOUTS Some' good, (ait boxing w&s Been at the amateur tournament which wag held under the auspices of the Rakaia Boxing Association in the Town Hall, Rakaia, last night. In spite of cold weather there waa a large attendance. Champion boxen from Otago, South Canterbury. Anhburton, and Canter bury competed. Officials were: —Referee, Mr E. Pocock: judges, Messrs J. B. Cullen, G. N. Grigg, B. Power; a.inouncer, Mr N. D. Brown; seconds, Messrs J. F. O'Reilly, R. Rains, jun., W. Lynch, and J. Lawlor; timekeeper*, Messrs T. Patterson and W. R. Black. Carney (Rakaia) lOst 61b. * N. Fisher (Ohristcharoh) 9st 61b. beat A. Carrie (Timaru) 9st 61b on a technical knock-out in the fifth round. The pace was fast f<-om the start, with Fisher hitting hard. Ourrie put up a fame fight. Heavyweight P. Bryant (Timaru) 12at Sib beat R. Rains (Rakaia) 12st 81b. The two boxers were tall men. Bain* had good footwork and a straight left, but Bryant proved a strong fighter and knocked Rains down for a count of seven in the third round and won fairly comfortably. Mosqulto-welght R. Vessey (Ashburton) sst 131b beat R. Wilkinson (Mitcham) 6st 41b. Light Haavy-welght E. Cleverley (Oama u) list 101b beat T. Green (Rakaia) list 121b.
