CANTERBURY CLUB'S ANNUAL MEETING
The Canterbury Rowing Club held its seventy-fifth annual meeting last evening in the Chamber of Commerce buildings, Mr R. J. Hobbs, a vice-pre-sident, presiding over an attendance of 30 members. Moving the adoption of the report j and balance-sheet, the chairman ex-; pressed pleasure at the flourishing con- j dition of the club's affairs in its i seventy-fifth year. The club captain, Mr C. R. Hervey, in seconding thn motion, pointed out that the increase of three in the membership hardly indicated the true strength of the club, for the roll had been purged during the year. He urged members, however, to do their utmost to Increase the membership. Mr Hervey paid a tribute to the work as coaches of Messrs H. Avers, -P. H. Brown, arid D. St, C. Gunn, and of the retiring treasurer, Mr M. D. Watts. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Mr G. W. A. Day strongly, urged that it was a mistake to change crews. He felt that in building up a strong crew it was of the greatest importance to "keep the personnel unchanged as far as possible. The following motion was passed on the motion of Mr Day:—That this meeting is unanimously opposed to any attempt to shorten the distance of the New Zealand Internrovincial eight-oar championship race. Mr J. B. Taylor introduced discussion on the club blazer. He felt that one of a darker colour than the present one, which is white with red edges, would have more utility. Other members suggested the incorporation of some heraldic design in the badge. Messrs Hobbs, Taylor, Evans, Hervey, and M. Hullett were appointed a subcommittee to bring down a report on the subject. Mr A. R. Currie advocated the establishment of a fund fqr-replacing plant, especially boats, that had fallen into disrepair through age. election of Officers Officers for 1935-36 were elected as follows:—President, Mr P. I. Cowlishaw; vice-presidents, Messrs H Ayers, R. J. Hobbs. J. F. Grierson. and C. F. Turner; club captain, Mr C. R. Hervey; deputy-captain, Mr D. St. C. Gunn; honorary treasurer, Mr R. O Foster; assistant treasurer, Mr W. M. Graham; honorary secretary, Mr J. M. Stewart; committee, Messrs A. R. Currie, G. East, J. O. McGiffen, W. O. Poulton, J. B. Taylor, M. D. Watts, and T. R. Evans; delegates to Rowing Association, Messrs J. B. Taylor and C. R. Hervey; honorary auditors, Messrs F. H. Brown and J. W. K. Lawrence; racing committee, Messrs Hervey, Gunn, and F. H. Brown.
