The anhual dinner and meeting was held in the Dominion Hotel last evening, with Mr E. Boulton presiding. Among the apologies received was one from Mr Percy Coyle, general secretary of the National Council of the Licensed Trade of New Zealand. The value of tournaments, such as the one played yesterday, in bringing about a better understanding not only among the two branches of the licensed trade, but severally among the members of each branch, was commented on by l many of the speakers. Mr T. James said that many of the differences in the trade had arisen through a lack of understanding. Such games inspired understanding among the members of the different branches, and this would in its turn lead to placing the trade as a whole in a better position with the general public. With other speakers, he praised the work that had been done by the local committee in organising the tournament. Mr A. S. Duncan, in replying to the toast of the National Council, said that it had been formed to add strength to the trade, and it supplied the means of binding together all the members of the branches of the trade. The tournaments gave a place in .which to discuss problems and to meet as friends. The following toast list was honoured: "The King"; "The North Island and South Island Licensed Victuallers' Golf Association," proposed by Mr A. S. Duncan and responded to by Mr Boulton; "Templeton Golf Club," proposed by Mr E. W. Hasell and responded to by Mr W. Milner, a foundation member of the club, who apologised for the absence of Mr W. W.
