ON READING KANT
Sir.—l read with interest Mr Colonna's criticism of Mr Holcroft's article, but I think he has quite missed the point of it. Had Mr Colonna read it more closely he would have seen that Mr Holcroft had too deep an understanding of his Kant to attempt an exposition along the lines suggested. It would scarcely be possible to do Kant justice in the short space given to articles and essays on a literary page. The article seems to be meant more as a guide to those who have yet to study Kant. Mr Colonna's letter shows a certain amount of book learning, for which one must give him credit; but he should bear in mind that accuracy and clearness cf thought (to say nothing of discrimination) are the first essentials cf any would-be critic. —Yours, etc., I ROBT. E. KERSHAW. July 17, 1935.
