IMPROVED TELEPHONE CABLES
♦ MAIL TO AMERICA IN TWO DAYS PREDICTIONS IN BRITAIN (Received July 26, 9 p.m.) LONDON, July 25. "The Post Office will soon introduce new telephone cables, which will carry 200 conversations simultaneously," declared Sir Donald jrfanKS, Uirector-General of the Posl office. He added tnat only two con-vt-roauons were possiole on the exiting cables. The time was not distant when the householder would have a news tape in the corner of a room combined with a television set, to illustrate current happenings Another corner woulJ contain a radio telephone, and all would be worked on the same wire. Sir Donald Banks also foreshadowed a reduction in overseas telephone rates and a two-day air mail service between America and England.
