WOMEN FINED FOR READING TEACUPS
(I'&lilS ASSOCIATION TELEaB4M..> AUCKLAND, June 21. Mr W. R. McKean, S.M., to-day fined two women £1 each for undertaking to tell fortunes in tearooms. He said one was apparently employed for the purpose of character reading, but what she did was to read teacups and tell the police matrons that they were going on journeys, etc. That amounted to telling fortunes. The practice has been made an offence because it had been found that it affected the lives and happiness of people who believed in it. Although it was nonsense, it was mischievous nonsense.
