SPORTS FIXTURES FOR TO-DAY
~ ■ r*— — INDIA V. NEW ZEALAND AT HOCKEY KENXETT CUP STEEPLECHASE, The chief sporting fixture for today is the first India v. New Zealand hockey test, which is to be played on the Lancaster Park oval. Other fixtures include the Kcnnett Cup steeplechase at Riccarton, in which Dunedin and Canterbury runners will compete, and regular competition games in Rugby and Association football, whiter tennis, and basketball. The huckev test, for which all regular hockev fixtures have been postpone, will at 1.45 p.m., and will be followed by a senior Rugby Union , arr ,c in which Old Boys and Albion, leaders in the competition, will meet. The Hugbv match will begin at 3 p.m. Other Klines in the senior Rugby comMotion will be as follows:--Umver-:'itv v. Linwood, Lancaster Park south, ■• H> pin.; Sunnyside v. Association Football The Association football competition vi'll be' advanced a further round this afternoon. The chief fixture, at Kr Park will be the meeting ot Wi ,U-rn A and Rangers. Other matches will be Noma.s v. Thistle, ■i' Richmond' Linwood v. .Technical, at Linwood; and St. Albans v. Western Ji. at Sumner. All senior games will bc:;in at 2.15 p.m. All League matches have been postponed because of the hockey test. Keiuiett Cup F:fl\ -leur runner::, a much smaller ••-)'! than usual, will compete in the KeuneUCup steeplechase over two.laps <-.f fhe Riccarton racecourse this afternoon. The leading teams entered for the race are Civil Service. Dunedin, holder of the cud since the race was instituted in 1930, and Chnstenurch, the club promoting the race. It is expected (hat Civil Service will have little difficulty in retaining the cup, but the Christchureh team should run better this year than it; has done since 1930.
The race will start at 2.45 p.m. Winter Tennis The Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association's winter competition will be continue! at Wilding Park this afternoon. Play will begin at 1.30. HocJtey The New Zealand University A team will play a Canterbury team, and the University B team will play Malvern. The University women's hockey team will meet a Canterbury team in a match which will be played at the Hospital corner, Hagley Park, beginning at 10.30 a.m. Basketball The Canterbury Basketball Association's competitions will be advanced a further stage at South Hagley Park. The draw for the seniors is as follows:—Cathedral v. A.B.C. A, court 25; University A v. Training College A, court 26; Digby's A v. Technical A, court 27; St. Mary's A v.
