A JUBILEE BOOK
God Save the Kin?! By Lady Cynthia Asquith. Chapman and, Hall Ltd. 104 pp. (2s Gd net.) This well-written little book tells in outline the story of the King and Queen, and is .altogether a very pretty piece of homage. This is not to say, however, that Lady Cynthia Asquith lets enthusiasm overwhelm the biographer's spirit of enquiry. If she had done so, her jtudy would have been a less impressive tribute to the Empire's royalty than it is. It is interesting to learn of the Queen that before her marriage she devoted six hours of each day to books: "Her reading was very varied, comprising not only poetry, biography, history, and novels, but also Blue Books, an unusual diet, which her determination fully to understand matters remote from her own sphere of life made her devour in large quantities." The only fault to be found with Lady Cynthia Asquith's book, indeed, is that it might easily be twice as long—and twice the price, if necessary.
