Thfj declaration of the Mount Hold.'sworth area as a scenic reserve or national park, so as to protect it for all time against milling rights, was urged by Mr G. Sclby at the anni jal meeting of the Mount Holdswor £h Club this week. Mr Selby and Mr F. Norris were appointed a corrirnittee to approach o£her societies to further the project. Mount Ho'lrtsworth and its surroundings, in the.- 'Tararua ranges, is a very popular resort, being visited by many thousands every year. At present trve area is under the control of the Fb res try Department, which latterly rj.\as grantpd milling rights over Other areas in the Tararuas. although objections have been made by district, residents against the further de- [ nudation of the Tararua foothills. I The move being sponsored bv the I club is to ensure that the Mount Holisworth area will be safeguarded against the possibility of milling operations in this attractive resort.
