RACES AT TIMARU

SUNSHINE AT WASHDYKE Splendid conditions prevailed for the South Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting, which was held on Saturday at Washdyke. A large crowd enjoyed the keen racing, and the sun, which was unusually hot for this time of the year, induced many ladies to. discard their coats. Tailored frocks and suits were most popular, tweeds and woollen fabrics in their many weaves and colourings being favoured. Among the ladies present were Mrs Donald Grant (wife of the president), who wore a navy crepe de chine frock finished with beige, o musquash coat and a beige felt hat. Mrs A. S. Elworthy wors a beechnut brown wool cloth suit, the sleeves being wide to give a cape effect. Her overblouse was of olive green suede crepe, and she wore a brown velour hat.

Mrs Maurice Harper, Persian red woollen 1 suit, brown jumper, and a' brown hat.

Mrs Timaru Rhodes, nigger brown diagonal cloth SSoat with fur collar, and orange and brown cravat, and a brown felt hat.

Mrs H. Sinclair Thomson, brown and grey checked tailored suit, mustard knitted jumper, and a grey felt hat banded in mustard ribbon. Mrs Derrick Gould (Christchurch), a tailored suit of heather mixture tweed and a smart little hat of the same tweed.

Mrs Ronald Orbell (Oamaru), fawn tweed costume, mushroom Shetland wool jumper, and a brown felt hat. Mrs Maurice O'Rorke {North Canterbury), brown, and beige checked suit, brown high-necked jumper, and a brown hat.

Mrsß. S. Fitzgerald (Oamaru), navy tailored frock and navy hat, stonegrey mixed tweed coat. Mrs W. H. Orbell. black cloth costume, fur stole and black felt hat. Mrs Bruce Murray, laurel green wool crepe frock, green velour hat, and brown coat with stone marten fur.

Mis Fonna Macdonald, cinnamon mixed tweed tailored suit and tweed hat, primrose crepe de chine blouse. Miss Diana Orbell, grey skirt with Lido blue polo jumper, navy coat, and Lido blue halo hat.

Miss Margaret Rolleston, blue and white flecked tweed ensemble, and small tweed hat.

Miss Jean de Latour, nut brown coat with high fur collar, and felt hat. Mrs C. E. Thomas, black crepe de chine frock, black sealskin coat, and black hat.

Mrs Gerald Murray, bottle-green angora tweed ensemble, fur collar, and green stitched hat, Mrs Harold Elworthy, brown and white checked suit, brown polo jumper, and brown felt hat. Miss Betty Harper, cinnamon cloth ensemble, navy woollen jumper, and navy hat. Miss Janet Orbell. nut brown frock with fawn revers, brown boucle coat and hat.

Mrs L. E. Finch, herringbone striped tweed suit, bottle-green jumper,- tweed hat and fawn fox fur.

Miss Sylvia Orbell, fawn tailored suit, wool lace jumper, and fawn felt hat.

Miss Joyce Edgar Jones, navy honeycomb weave suit, white satin blouse, and navy felt hat. Miss Janet Murchison. marine blue tweed costume and felt hat to tone. Miss Denderah Rhodes, cigar-brown tailored diagonal cloth coat with high fur collar and brown felt hat.

Miss June Orbell, marina green flecked lrock with short cape, darker green velour hat. Miss Helen Kerr, beige wool suit with canary jumper, and green felt hat.

Miss Margaret Porritt, stone-grey tailored coat and grey cloth hat Miss Mae Scott, nutmeg-brown tweed suit, brown and white checked blouse, fawn hat with brown and orange feather mount Miss Mary Mackenzie, leaf-green woollen suit, small green hat with brown cord.

Miss Katrine Loughnan (Christchurch), sage-green frock, brown astrakhan turban hat and brown fur. Miss Ann Elworthy, brown and white finely checked suit, blue knitted jumper and blue bat. Miss Sally Newton (Ashburton), brown suit and orange and brown cravat scarf, brown hat.

Mrs George Buchanan (Christchurch). henna boucle coat and small henna hat.

Miss Molly Maling (Christchurch), navy tailored frock, pale blue kilted collar, and small navy hat. Miss June Wright (Christchurch), moss-green frock with oriental trimming, fawn cloth coat, and moss-green stitched hat.

Mis Violet Livingstone (Dunedin), navy tailored suit, blue and white patterned blouse, navy felt hat with red and blue quill.

Miss Shona Scott, mustard woollen suit and small mustard felt hat.

Mrs E. G. Kerr, rush tailored frock, marmot fur and rush felt hat. Mrs Frank Barker, cinnamon-brown tailored coat, orange and yellow posy, brown velour hat.

Miss F. Orbell, mixed brown tweed frock, brown fur coat and brown hat. Mrs F. Drewitt, brown tailored suit and brown tweed hat.

Miss Helen Fox, nigger-brown suit, with astrakhan collar and scarf, brown and white checked coat, small brown hat.

Mrs W. I. Irvine, stone-grey mixed tvfceed suit and tweed hat and tie scarf.

Miss Ailsa Campbell, sage-green ensemble. small green hat with stiffened net veil.

Miss Margaret Campbell, blue frock and fawn coat, and small blue hat.

Mrs C. H. Gresson, fawn crepe de chine frock, mole fur coat and brown and white patterned scarf, brown' velour hat.

Miss Muriel Greer (Kurow), bottlegreen suede crepe frock, green hat with orange quill. Miss Monica Greer (Kurow), stonegrey mixed tweed suit, fur stole, and brown felt hat with rust and black feather.

Miss Dorothy Barron, brown and beige patterned angora tweed frock, boucle coat and brown fabric hat. Mrs G. R. Kingston, crushed strawberry frock, short suede coat to tone and small hat.
