RACES AT TIMARU

SUNSHINE AT WASHDYKE Splendid conditions prevailed for the South Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting, which was held on Saturday at Washdyke. A large crowd enjoyed the keen racing, and the sun, which was unusually hot for this time of the year, induced many ladies to. discard their coats. Tailored frocks and suits were most popular, tweeds and woollen fabrics in their many weaves and colourings being favoured. Among the ladies present were Mrs Donald Grant (wife of the president), who wore a navy crepe de chine frock finished with beige, o musquash coat and a beige felt hat. Mrs A. S. Elworthy wors a beechnut brown wool cloth suit, the sleeves being wide to give a cape effect. Her overblouse was of olive green suede crepe, and she wore a brown velour hat.

Mrs Maurice Harper, Persian red woollen 1 suit, brown jumper, and a' brown hat.

Mrs Timaru Rhodes, nigger brown diagonal cloth SSoat with fur collar, and orange and brown cravat, and a brown felt hat.

Mrs H. Sinclair Thomson, brown and grey checked tailored suit, mustard knitted jumper, and a grey felt hat banded in mustard ribbon. Mrs Derrick Gould (Christchurch), a tailored suit of heather mixture tweed and a smart little hat of the same tweed.

Mrs Ronald Orbell (Oamaru), fawn tweed costume, mushroom Shetland wool jumper, and a brown felt hat. Mrs Maurice O'Rorke {North Canterbury), brown, and beige checked suit, brown high-necked jumper, and a brown hat.

Miss Joyce Edgar Jones, navy honeycomb weave suit, white satin blouse, and navy felt hat. Miss Janet Murchison. marine blue tweed costume and felt hat to tone. Miss Denderah Rhodes, cigar-brown tailored diagonal cloth coat with high fur collar and brown felt hat.

Miss June Orbell, marina green flecked lrock with short cape, darker green velour hat. Miss Helen Kerr, beige wool suit with canary jumper, and green felt hat.
