Dancing was held to music played by Mr G. Walls. Mr G. Walls was master of ceremonies.

The April meeting of the Waikari Women's Institute was held, with the vice-preiidfcnt, Mrs R. W. Tucker, presiding in the absence of the president. It was decioed to send a delegate to the Dominion conference in Auckland in July- Mrs G. McKitterick and Miss A. Trounce were appointed to take charge of the sales table for the year, Mhss E. Brien to take charge of the roll call box, and Mrs A. T. Earl and Mrs H. Saundercock as competition »tewards. The monthly competition resulted: Mrs D. Mowatt 1 and 2, and Miss E. Mowatt 3. A demonstration on home nursing was given during the evening by Nurse Sharpe. The hostewstts for the evening were Mrs D. Mowatt and Miss Mowatt, and Mrs A- T. Earl During supper a presentation was made on behalf of the members to Nurse Sharpe, who will leave for England shortly.

Tii* monthly meeting of the Loburn Women's Institute was held in the school, with Miss Barker presiding. Minn Olwen Croft was appointed secretary. On behalf of the members, Miss Marker presented Mrs J. W. Macleod with a piece of crystal, in recognition of her services as president. An address was given by Dr. E. S. McPhail. A competition for the most decorative at Sowers resulted: Mrs A. C. Pulley 1, Mrs Henry 2, and Miss Linda Andrews 3. Best school lynch: Mrs C. How 1. Mrs MacGregor presided over a good attendance at the monthly meeting of *he Arno Women's Institute, the meeting taking the form of an Irish afternoon* It was decided to hoid a birthday party. There was a fair attendance at the monthly meeting of the Ikawai Women's Institute, at which Mrs N. Verity presided. Members stood in siltrfic« out of respect for the late Mrs Turn bull. At the monthly meeting of the Studholme Women's Institute Mrs A. J. Young presided. It was decided to form a folk dancing class during the year. Owing to insufficient funds it was decided not to send a delegate to the Dominion conference. It was resolved to spend £2 on materiel to be made into garments for distribution in the district. Mesdames Dallard, Young, and Saunders, sen., were appointed to cut out the garments. Mesdames E. Rollinson, Meyer, Young, and .Misd Cox were appointed a social committee, Mesdames Hayman and Kippenberger were deputed to welcome visitors, and Mesdames Young and Forsyth were appointed sick visitors. Mr Kippenberger gave an interesting address on photography. The birth* ; day cake was cut and handed round, and votes of thanks were passed to Mesdames Skelton and E. Rollinson for making and icing it. The afternoon s competitions resulted:—Special bloom, Mrs Forsyth 1, Mrs G. The monthly meeting of the Waituna Women's Institute was held in the Foresters' Hall, Waimate, Mrs Officer presiding. Mrs Lewis demonstrated bulb planting in fibre, and Miss Beckett demonstrated the making of a rug from unravelled wool. The competitions resulted:—Pot of raspberry jam, Mrs Jackson 1; stiff starched collar, Mrs O'Brien 1; the flower for the month (Vahlias), Mrs Good 1; best bloom m the garden, Mrs Elder 1. Mrs Richardson was appointed delegate to the Dominion conference to be held in Auckland in July.

HINDS

A dance was held by the Hinds Women's Institute in the hall recently. Music was played by Morris's band and an extra was played by Mr H. Claughton. A lucky spot waltz was won by Mr M. Rickard and Miss F. Donaldson, and a Monte Carlo one-step by Mr Tullock and Miss R. Donaldson. Mr Bert Claughton was master of ceremonies.

WAIHAO DOWNS

At the monthly meeting of the Waihao Downs Women's Institute, Mrs S. Preece presided. Mrs Kirk gave a talk on bulb growing in fibre. It was decided to send a delegate to the conference to be held at Auckland, rhc competition, an apron parade, was won by Mrs Graen with Mrs Preece second. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesse, Mrs Millar and Miss Connor.

FAIRLIE

The monthly meeting of the Fairlie Women's Institute was held in the Parish Hall. Mrs Barnes presided. Mrs McWilliam, who was the first president of the institute, was welcomed to the meeting. Mrs Barnes was elected delegate to the annual conference in Auckland. Arrangements for an excursion train to Timaru on June 7 to enable members to attend the arts and crafts exhibition were left in the hands of' Mrs F. Major. A competition was won by Mrs A. Fleming. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames A. Loomes, J. Loomes, Guinness, Kane, Everest, and McKinnon. Mrs Searle gave a demonstration on papier mache work. Mr Lee, secretary for Dr. Barnardo's homes spoke on diet.

The Hokitika Women's Institute met in the Soldiers' Hall recently. Mrs Bassett (president) gave a report of the recent conference held in Greymouth. The competition for a flourbag article was won by Mrs F. Breeze, Mrs R. Paterson being second. A demonstration on making loose covers was given by Mrs W. Lindsay. A generous response was given to the appeal for garments for the relief depot. The hostesses for the evening were Mesdames Bassett, John Breeze James Breeze, F. Breeze, G. Burt, W. E. Brown, R. Collett, and Bennett.

FRANZ JOSEF

At the monthly meeting of the Franz Josef branch of the Women s Institute Mrs P. Graham presided. A competition for best dancing was won by Mrs P. Graham, with Mrs Pope second. A demonstration on making rugs from old materials was given by Mrs J. Pope. Games and community singing occupied the remainder of the evening. The hostesses were Mis L. Gibb and Miss Graham.

DORIE

The monthly meeting of the Dorie Women's Institute was held in the Ardamine Hall. Miss Joan Chambers presided. A motion of sympathy was extended to the president, Miss Carruthers, who had met with an accident. An interesting talk on common ailments, and a demonstration of bandaging were given by Mrs S. Connolly. Arrangements were made to hold the birthday party and chrysanthemum show, and also an institute evening. LAURISTON

The committee of the Lauriston Women's Institute met at the residence of Mrs J. A. Mackie. After considering the many suggestions that had been forwarded by members, a programme for the monthly meetings up to March, 1936, was compiled.
